Hi guys. Has anyone tried finishing a riser with clear enamel? If yes, how well does it hold up? I know enamel would not be suitable for the limbs so I'd likely use T-bird on those. I'm considering doing some hand painted decorative accents on the riser using Testors enamel model paints and it seems like every topcoat chemistry available other than enamel itself (polyurethane, epoxy, lacquer, etc) will attack the enamel artwork underneath.
Thanks,
Charles
No experience with using enamel on a riser. The arrow building guys sometimes use Testors for cresting, one of them could tell you what finish they put over it. Let us know how it turns out.
A coat of shellac should protect the enamel from the topcoat. Just to be safe, I would try it on a test piece.
Dave.
I've used polyurethane over enamel cresting on arrows with no problem.
