I'm stepping up my game on my finishes and getting a good spray gun. Been using a preval sprayer with unsatisfactory results. The gun I'm getting comes with a 20 oz cup. I only use a few ounces at a time. Do you guys just mix what you need and use the larger cup or are there smaller cups available that I'm not finding?
Rumor has it, you always used a smaller cup...
I have used one of the Harbor Freight 4 oz. Adjustable Detail Air Spray Gun $12.99 for years with very good results.I dont think I would even consider anything bigger than that.
Dang it Roy, you been going through my drawers again? Lol
The touch up guns usually only come with a 1.0 nozzle. I wasn't sure it would be adequate. I think as 1.3-1.5 is the recommended size. :dunno:
I am new to using a spray gun myself, I have sprayed 6 sets of limbs and 2 one piece recurves..still learning the process. what finish are you going to use? From my research I was told the finish I use (Krystal) works best with a 1.4mm tip. I believe you can spray T-Bird with a smaller tip. I bought the $47 HF 2 gun set with a mini HVLP, it has a 4oz cup..I modified the 1.0mm tip and make it 1.4mm. I just sprayed a set of limbs, I mixed 3oz of spray, I had 1 oz left in gun when I was done. I had a HF $13 mini gun but returned it when I found out it had a 0.8mm tip..it should work for T-Bird or Buffalo Hide
Thx Robert, I'm using buffalo hide.
Big Jim will know what tip size is best for the Buffalo Hyde. The Thunderbird web site may also have a good link or information too. I bought the Krystal from Big Jim. I am looking at a new gun now, Fenex FX1000 with a 1.4mm tip.. gonna research it and see how its rated.
I just looked at the T-bird web page..I will study it tomorrow.. But I did see that 0.8 - 1.0mm will work for Gloss and up to 1.4mm for Satin.. lots of other tips on their web page.

Same here.
Smaller is better for bows as they weigh less and are easier to use (less effort) which results in a smoother finish.
I have this one.. Works great and comes in many tips sizes.

Just ordered a finex FX1000 with a 1.4mm tip and a 4oz cup.. Just like Mr Roys..
I wore out one Sharp Finex detailing cars and just bought a new one for bows.
God bless, Steve
my Finex fx1000 mini HVLP spray gun arrived today..I looked it over, took it apart.. It looks pretty nice, I like the metal 4oz cup and polished gun body. I hope to use it next week
My DeVilbiss kit arrived today as well, a large gun and a mini gun, 3 different size nozells. Only thing I didn't care for is the mini gun has an 8oz cup but I can live with it!
