so i dont know how this will go down, but i have access to clear glass, from germany- not bearpaw. the prices look very good- maybe if folk want to e mail me( through my profile page!)-we could put a small order in, and see what its like- and if its good, then maybe put some bigger orders in, as a group- or individually -or whatever!- i dont/wont use a lot of glass in a year!- especially as im a gonna start building tri lams now- with me ol' mentor (http://yoursmiles.org/psmile/science/p0314.gif) (http://yoursmiles.org/p-science.php)
but it seems like we should check it out!
pse note: i am not selling it, not trying to make a profit- just putting something together so that we can all benefit, because of the current glass issues :)
What is the price? Who makes the glass?
I haven't used a piece of clear glass in 5 yrs. If a new supplier comes on board with and acceptable product I would reconsider. How big of an order are you trying to put together and do you have the price breakdown?
James
Interested in the details. Price, dimensions, etc.
Thanks
got to run off right now- i will get the info up here a bit later-
but quickly- the laminate has more glass in it - compared to gordons- 78% glass as apposed to 70% in the gordons- so it is stiffer and better- and free of streaks.
he is sending me a sample-
will post later.
I'm in!
I'm interested as well
I'm in also
Very interested
Can't wait to see pics and prices. Thanks Wayne
i will be chatting to him tomorrow morning, and see what kind of deal we can set up- the whole time difference thing- really messes one around a bit.
i will keep everyone posted as this happens- the glass seemed cheaper than the local stuff, but there would be some shipping, and some duties too- but if its as good and as clear as i have heard it is- that will be great for all of us!
i will let you all know as soon as i have more info
i'd be interested in getting the address or contact details as I'd have to play a lone hand over here, but might be worth it.
See if he has Osage Glass.... :)
:biglaugh:
easy Roy, bit of sawdust and CA glue! :bigsmyl:
bob, i will forward all the info- as soon as i get it all from him- he told me to hold my horses- as he was sending me a piece of glass as a sample first- sounds like a straight shooter to me!
Almost sounds to good to be true. "IF" it's as good as it sounds I'll be on board.
What's ya gonna do make a fishen rod Randy? :)
I'm a gonna back a bamboo rod with glass an beat your a&@!
I hain't skeered... You East Texans couldn't beat a dead fly off a dead fish.. :)
LOL
Ifn you'd hold still it'd be a lot easier!! :biglaugh:
Ya just made the top of the other thumpin list, Boy.. :)
Thanks Wayne, all sounds good but will wait and see how it pans out
Oh crap!! :help:
Nothing like making the top of Roy's thumpin list! :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :deadhorse:
I'm interested in the details as well (about the glass, not Roy's thumpin list. lol).
Hell, even being on Ol' Roy's (aka minus "T") thumping list is an honor...
I'm very interested, too, pending details.

Let me know what you come up with, this has definitely caught my attention.
hiya all,
i have just got off the phone with the manufacturer/supplier. he is rearing to go- he has sent me samples of 1.5" and 1.75" glass. i will laminate them up to some dark veneers- get some good professional quality pics( mate is a pro photogragher).
and then post them up here- and then we can work out how things are going to go forward from here.
any suggestions as to what i should laminate them to, just to get a good visual of whats there.
maybe i should just glue them up to some solid black glass or something. or maybe satin some uniform wood, a very dark brown, and then glue it up.
any other tests ?
maybe a weight?
possibly a rudimentary stiffness test. he said that, on a 45# recurve he uses .015 less stack, than if he uses gordons - because of the higher glass content in the layup, and subsequent stiffness.
we will just have to wait now for when the samples arrive :D tic,toc....
Walnut lams with walnut dye come out very dark.
Yes, it wiuld be nice to lay up a bow exactly as you have before to compare resulting draw weights.
Wayne, i will surely be interested. The last batch of clear glass from binghams I received was no good! No fault of binghams but the manufacturer!
East Indian Rosewood, Macassar Ebony..both are dark. I have some of both if you need some veneer.
I'd be interested in this as well. I'd think veneers that weren't so dark might better reveal issues in the glass. Maybe use some Red Cedar or Red Elm - something that has a contrasty grain of dark and light.
i dont know how much has been sent- if its enough to make a full bow or not- but whatever i get i can laminate up and see!?
Darker shows better, my supplier said to lay it on something black to see the white lines in it.
I covered my bench in black phenolic for that reason....
I thought you might chime in, way to go Mr. Kenny!
Hope you get some clear stuff, sucks to put one together and have streaks. I hope Gordon's get their stuff lined out, they have made good clear before.
Waiting and hoping this pans out. Thanks for your efforts.
I'd also be interested in good clear glass, does it have scrim or no scrim, .030,.040,.050 . 1-1/2", 1-3/4", 2"
I check clear by wetting it down, put over something dark, and shine a flashlight into it
good advice all round- i will be checking it out thoroughly when it get here.
cheers
Hello,
living in Germany, I'd be interested in the name and address of the manufacturer, too.
TIA
Markus
Kauz. PM sent. Bue--.
you can count me in. The last clear glass I got was from Kenny. I actually have 2 pieces of glass from binghams with grind marks 6 inches long in them. Binghams wanted me to mail them back at my cost and they would determin if they were that bad, I just laughed and shrug my head.Never made another order from them.
thanks guys- will keep updating this, as i keep getting info!
I too have a interest in this glass, me and my dad had a nice stock of glass and as we just used our last ones we had to order some and as all of you have stated it was not good quality streaks all over it. So we are interested too.
Any updates on this???
Hi Ben, chatted to the mnfr- its all a go. just waiting for the samples to arrive via post, as soon as i have them in my grubby paws i will be telling everybody- posting here on this thread. thanks for bringing this back up
cheers
I'd be interested in colored glass too since it appears stiffer than Gordons.
roger that!
will find out if they do colors- and if so- what colors?
Interested in colors too also if they carry the equivalent of core tuff and what colors if so.
for those of you that had this thread marked!
the glass arrived!!
check it out!
