some shots her of the latest take down I've made using Jim Thorne's excellent plans.Osage and Wenge riser , boo core and osage/ wenge spliced belly lams. 55# at 28'' and is 62'' NTN. Very smooth on the draw. (http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah249/bigbob2/002_zps942516b4.jpg) (http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/bigbob2/media/002_zps942516b4.jpg.html)

Very nice!
Wow... Great job!!!
 :archer:
No doubt, gorgious.
Very nice Bob. :) Bue--.
Great looking bow!
Beautiful! What did you use for accent strips in the riser?
I never realized how beautiful Osage could be. I wonder if my parents would notice if their 5 ricks are gone in the morning....
thanks so much guys! Brett I looked at a few things to use for accent strips and really shied away from phenolic strips as they are hard to shape down at the same level as the surrounding woods, and other material didn't take too kindly to following the curves. in the end I went with something I've used on some other bows, in bamboo in the natural type.Bit of a pity that the osage will darken with sun exposure but I still like the brownish color it goes any way. It's also not very easy to come by over here.
Also coretuff glass in red and black. As Big Jim mentioned in a previous post I am moving right away from phenolic where i can.
Lol. Can't drive a mile in the country in Kansas without seeing a mile-long hedgerow. I've been cutting it for my folks for over 20 years but now I'm really gonna look at every tree before I cut to make sure I'm not destroying a potential bow. Is the really thin red strip glass? That Wenge looks awesome, I'm going to have to see if I can find some around here.
both the black and red stripes are .030 coretuff glass, much better to work with than phenolic. Wish we had that amount of Osage here. Southern states have some that was imported many years ago primarily as wind break. Some farmers actually dozed piles out in later years and burnt it! Sob sob! :scared: :knothead:
Happens here to. It's a nuisance to some landowners. To bad shipping is so high between Austrilia and the States. I could just send some.
Have you used G10 and Uni Weft to know how they compare to the Core Tuff? What all doo you like about the Core Tuff?
Uni weft and core tuff are very similar except that core tuff adds a level of torsional stability you won't get with the core tuff. g10 isn't for limbs but nice in a riser.
Beautiful bow Bigbob2. Keep up the great work.
Brett, we keep a bunch of wenge in stock in many sizes if you are in need.

Great looking bow Bob!
Beautiful bow Bob!
How is the coretuff for sawing on your bandsaw? Does it hurt your blade?
Thanks Jim and Trux! Beach bow its instant death on a blade! That's the only drawback, first time i used the coretuff I forgot and made a cut in the riser just a momentary cut through the .030 and the blade was done. Now I cut either side up to the glass and finish off with a hacksaw or if its a long cut swap the blade for a 'dedicated' glass blade[ an old previously dulled blade] which does cut well if slower than normal.
Sweet contrast on that bow, Bob. Good job!!
That's what I was afraid of. I hate changing bandsaw blades. Phenolic doesnt add much besides a little color but it is butter soft on your bandsaw. I would rather use the fiberglass but I'm too lazy.
" I hate changing blades" Yeah I can relate to that! So do I but really it only takes a few minutes and for me it worth it for the better characteristics of the coretuff.
nice one bob!!!really nice combo!!
Pretty stunning wood combos!
If you don't mind could you tell me how you cut the curves in your riser? I know hot to do single curves but how did you get the two to match up?
Thanks
Very nice Bobby...
thanks again fellas. even you Roy!!! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: Mike I just had templates made and did first the upper curve and then followed with the lower one, grind sand and fit, grind sand and fit---- until there were no gaps.
Great looking bow. Love the contrast
That is a nice one Bob. I like the contrasts and all the tight fitting contours.
thanks Brush wolf and Greg. As mentioned earlier it's a bit of a pity that the Osage will darken but it still goes a very nice color.
Thanks for that. No 'short cut' then!
very nice wood combo...
nice lines.
VJ.
Stunning Bob
That's beautiful, outstanding work!
