Title: Laminating a T/D limb wedge
Post by: Mad Max on September 02, 2014, 04:59:00 PM
I want to put a stripe in my T/D limb wedges, will a stripe (wood and phenolic) make the wedge to stiff

It shouldn't affect the stiffness, however I'd be a little cautious about using phenolic.  In the number of bows I've made I've only had one delamination issue and that was with an accent stripe in the limb wedge.  My issue was dissimilar materials and the wood fibers actually sheered, not a glue failure.  Since the limb wedge actually flexes, unlike phenolic in a tip overlay or riser, you may see the same issue.  If you're going to give it a try I'd suggest only using solid wood and don't compromise your feathering.

Good point about the flexing

I think Kurt from Bigfoot Bows does that quite a bit.

Good advice with using all wood. The wood will move with humidity and the phenolic will not.Plus the flexing issue.

If you're wanting a thin black stripe, I'd just use core tuff, or black glass. I just used some white core tuff in my swap bow, and it seems to be working well with the limb.

Also given the cost of phenolic, I think you could use any wood on earth instead for the price.

I'm learning here. The wedges are the pieces laminated to the riser that the limbs seat to?

Those are 2 beautiful bows. Phoenix, I recognize the Lacewood but what is the darker and yellow wood?

The limb wedge's are the wedge at the butt of the limb where the bolt goes through.
Tip wedges are at the tips.

when I say stripe I mean-- white wood,2 white and one black phenolic, then dark wood again. ect

I'am putting a stripe in my riser, I also wanted more stripes,  so I thought I could add one in the wedge with wood also
Look at the pic. again I'am holding the strip up to the wedge
