The power companies are cutting trees today on my street. They cut a mulberry which nothing long enough. A lot of Japanese elm. Never tried it. Is it a wood that could be used? Got some straight pieces.
Are you going to make stave bows? Or are you going to plank the wood out for making wood-glass laminations? I'm not sure how Japanese Elm compares to Red Elm which is one of my favorite bow woods. Look up the differences in the Wood Database.
Probably Chinese elm.
I knew it was Asian. I got close. I cut a piece for a stick bow to play with. Just a short pony bow style. Who knows???
I've used red elm and winged elm and both make excellent bows. I've not used Chinese elm. That is the species that brought the elm bore to the US.
