Title: T/D Recurve with T/D Longbow Riser
Post by: M P Clark on June 25, 2014, 07:12:00 AM
Has only tried / played around with putting a set of recurve limbs on a T/D long bow riser?

The limbs from the Recurve would be the follow design:  Recurve Riser 19", 21 degrees limb angle, Overall length 60" and (we'll say) #45 @ 28".

put the limbs from this bow design on a:

17" longbow riser with a 11 degrees pad angle.  Giving the bow an overall length NtN of 58".

Any ideas or guidance on the increase of draw weight based on limb angle?

Thanks,

I tried matching a set of recurve limbs to a longbow riser that has approx the same limb bed angles as you stated. Not what I would consider the proper bend in the recurve limbs. Then I tried the longbow limbs on the recurve riser. To get any tension on the string the brace height was something like 18".

I know there are companies out there with both limbs for one riser. Just stopped trying before figuring it out.

Both my recurve and TD longbow have 11 degree pads but both are designed for that angle. So putting the curve limbs on the flatter angle may preload them too much depending on how they are designed. All you can do is give it a try--you may like it or not.

Roman builds a lot of 3pc bows with both recurve and longbow limbs. Ill ask some specifics.

I have tried to visualize how to do it and it seems to me that a low reflex recurve limb shape with static tips (see the Toelke SS) might work. It is on my bucket list to do.

RER markets just such a bow called the LXR which comes with two sets of limbs...actually the longbow limbs would be best described as hybrid as they have a huge amount of reflex to them yet still only contact the limbs at one point at brace...on the other hand the recurve limbs are, as you are thinking, static tips...I can email you some pictures if you think that would be helpful
