I'm planing on getting to go on my first elk hunt in 2015. One thing for certain there must be an elk bow. So there has been a lot of brainstorming. For me it is all part of the fun. As far as poundage I'm just not sure yet. For the riser and limbs this is what I have come up with. Bolivian rosewood with macasser ebony and red gum limb veneers. Just thought I'd share cause I can't wait to get started on it.

I can see your sketches on the wood. Is this a takedown?
I think the rosewood riser and ebony footing would look killer. Not sure I know what red gum looks like finished. That piece of lumber looks to have some nice grain though. I think it will be killer if it picks up some depth of color under the glass. Wipe some acetone on that gum and post another shot.
That will look sweet. Some light wood highlight lams around the flare will really make it pop!
Make this a build a long!!!! Those are great selections!
I wonder if its the same red gum we have here? Like your choices anyhow.
Not the lams I am planing on using. These are out of the same board.

Littleben it will be a takedown. It will be 62" somewhere between 50 - 60 pound.
Bigbob the red gum I have grows in the southern states. It's heartwood out of a sweet gum tree.
That's gonna be sharp Mike!!
It's going to look good! Look forward to seeing your finished bow.

Those will make some really nice looking lams. I had no idea sweetgum looked like that cut.
That's going to be a good looking bow- and 50-60#s will do the job...
It's gonna look good! Ready to see some more!
Love those colors! Cant wait to see the finished bow!
Heck yeah that will look sweet. I agree do a build along. I always like to see your recurves take shape.
I don't know if I will do a build along. Maybe I will try to post a pic every now and again. So far all the parts have been cut out. Time to get started sticking them together. :bigsmyl:
Yeah can see now, far too spectacular to be the same red gum we've got. Should look deadly!
And now the wait begins!!!!

Gonna look great Mike!
Holy cow that looks sweet
That is gonna be one awesome riser!
Oh man, I'm excited to see this!! That riser is going to be amazing.
Here is where I'm at. One thing is for sure I will have to order some more smooth on. I didn't realize how low I am. I couldn't decide to foot the limbs with B. Rosewood or M. Ebony. In the end I thing I made a good choice.

Should get a start glueing up the limbs in a few weeks.
That riser is sweet!!! Can't wait to see more.
Looking terrific! Will be looking out for the whole thing to develop
That riser looks awesome even with the finish not applied yet.

Sneak peek!!!!!
yes sir
X2
looks awesome
where are you going Elk hunting?
guided, self hunt, private land, public, ect. ??
Mark I am going to Colorado. Since I have never went before I opted for a guided hunt. After lots of talking to outfitters I chose T bar M outfitters. I hope to make this my main bow it should finish out about 56/57 pounds. Fingers crossed.
I'm having trouble keeping up on this thread cause every time I see more progress I just get more jealous of you EPIC SKILLS!!
That is really a beautiful bow. Keep it coming.
Haven't had time to do much. The tiller is really good so I won't have to do much to it. As far as poundage it is a little bit stiffer than the bow I shoot now. I need to put it on the scales but I think it should come out real close to were I wanted it.
Not the best of a pic but I will save them for later.

Well Mike, if it is just too heavy for ya send it south and I'll take it off your hands. :goldtooth:
Love the bow.
Just a beautiful bow
Thats just as stunning looking as the one you built for me Mike... Awesome awesome awesome work and bows are fabulous
Thanks Shawn. So far everything has went as planned. The draw came out to 57# at my draw. I usually like a bow 50 to 55 pound. I hope the extra doesn't make it hard to shoot.
I think it's starting to come together now. Put the first coat of finish on the riser today. The limbs need more work. Hopefully I can get her together soon.

WOW!!!!!
That riser is looking great!
Thanks guys. Here is a peek at the limbs.

As a bow should look. Stunning!
Well here it is. Everything is done but for the quiver and shelf material.

Nicely done!!! How did you do the antler inlay?
Nice one dude
I like those recurved tips
:clapper: :jumper:
Awesome bow!
Very nice Mike! You could give Schafer some competition in the takedown recurve market ;)
Mike
you should do a how to on that stipple job and antler
:)
I second Mark Daniel....how do you do that?
Great looking bow Mike. Your bows are as great or better looking as any ive seen anywhere. Very nicely done
Stunning work!!!
I guess it's OK.. :)
Beautiful!
Thanks everyone. When I put the antler in the grip I was wanting something to help with constant hand placement. When I inlayed it I let it stick up slightly above the rest of the grip. As far as a how to this was my first try at something like it. I'm not sure I would even be able to pull it off again. I cut out the shape on a piece of thin maple. I put it in the grip and rounded it with a dremal. After it was done I stippled the grip.
Here is a little better pic of it.

From tip to tip, absolutely perfect, your attention to detail is outstanding. Truly as fine as anything out there. :notworthy:
Nice work!
Wow! what do you use to stipple?
That is off the charts!

I use a diamond burr bit. It is about a 1/16 ball. I like it because it more or less sands the dimple. Some of the cutting type bits can catch and makes a mess. :scared: I just tried different bits until I found one that worked best for me.
wow nice work
Good grief, another of those sloppy looking jobs we see here all the time. Bue--. ;) ;)
Very nice
OH boy !!! Mike you have gone and done it again bud. your craftmanship and attn to detail and eagle eye is amazing bud.
I feel sp privagled and blessed to have a Brushwolf bow is my stable. beautiful bows.
Shawn
Stunning, very nice!
Very jealous ... you got serious skills.
Thanks everyone. I got a few arrows tuned to it. Sure seems to spit them out. I might just have to take it to the woods in the near future. :bigsmyl:
Very good workmanship. Tasty bow!
