Title: writing on the bow. new episode in finish.
Post by: T Folts on May 22, 2014, 07:18:00 AM
So I have started to change my finishing technique because a bow I'm build the guy wants a high gloss finish and that I have never done. Ive always sprayed several coat of gloss Thunderbird, then minor sanding lettered the bow and a couple of light coats of satin. For this bow I sealed the wood put several coats of gloss, lettered the bow then 3 coats of gloss over the lettering and when I wet sanded it it took of the lettering, I guess I'm gonna need to letter it after sealing the wood and before I build up my coats. I tell you I think I wont need a satin any more. I think I will just use gloss and wet sand it to 2000 and It looks real good for a low gloss finish. Any one else do this?

I haven't done it...yet. But I will. My friend Kevin did it on a riser he made out of some incredible quilted maple and it looks unbelievable.
