Title: Like riding a bike *updated*
Post by: Goose Gossett on April 19, 2014, 09:13:00 PM
After a change of jobs, new additions to the family, change in amount of free time available, and finally having some decent weather I decided to make some yellow dust.  People here in KC look a lot different at a guy working on osage while walking their dog in a purse (no lie).  Just smile and wave... smile and wave.  Sorry I didn't have my camera up in time to take the picture of the dog in the purse.  The dog looked as confused as me.

I got the sleeves on.  Tips don't line up too bad.  I might have a chance to slim down the belly tomorrow.  Here's high hopes to have it at brace height tomorrow!

Echatham: The two were actually split off of each other.  I looked for a picture of them that I took when I split them but I can't find it.  I had a 36" piece that had some good billets.  Those two came from it and the holes were on opposite ends if I remember correctly.

Billet #3 and #4 are the two I used.

Here it is before cutting in nocks.  It's floor tillered and I'm debating putting a layer or two of sinew on before finishing it up.  Maybe I'll get to throw on the sinew this weekend...

I finally got it pulling to 57lbs @ 28".  There are a few whoopti do roller coasters that were a bit of a challenge to tiller so it looks off but it's not.  I'm working it slower now and I've shot it a few times with both limbs top and love it. It will fling an arrow well for sure either way.  I'll finish the handle off but not sure how yet.  If my better half was here I would get a full draw picture but the neighbors didn't want to get close because it "might break".  She is 86 years old so I'll let it slide this time.

Forgot to add that I sinewed the back and bent it a bit with heat.  Can't remember if I posted those pics or not.

Ok, where bouts are you in K.C. ? I am north of the river in Gladstone. Yea I get strange looks all the time. Strip bark off of staves. Then make a quiver or basket from it. I like your verse too. Ecc. 4:12 for me.

I'm in prairie village, KS surrounded by yuppies it feels like. I just finished up the handle. We will see if I keep the leather strips or not. I'll have to shoot it a bit and figure out if I like it or not.
