A lot of guesswork on this one, so I was really happy that it became a bow. Never tillered one before, and I just followed my Gizmo except for the outer 8-10" and left that stiffer. Maybe I should have kept them stiffer yet. Didn't realize how much the tips open up until I saw the picture, even tho' I checked them in front of a mirror. Ah well, something to think about for the next one.
It's made of my three favorite woods, hickory, red elm, and osage. 63" NTN, 1 5/8" at fades to 1/2" nocks and 45# @ 27". Glued in 1 1/4" of deflex and the tips are reflexed 3" out from the back. I've put 150 arrows thru it and like the way it shoots. Draws and releases very smooth.
Thanks again to everybody who contributes their knowledge and advice to the Bowyer's Bench.

sweet. for the life of me i can't see a lamination in that thing.... looks like an osage selfbow. are ya sure you posted the right pictures
Very nice! I like it alot!
How much reflex does it hold after unstringing?
I like how the tips uncurl at full draw ... I liek to see ALL of the limb working personally so I think it's perfect.
Well done.
Takefive she is a beauty.! And 45# @ 27" to boot, those are my numbers........ :bigsmyl:
Awesome looking bow, thanks for sharing.
Looks great!! :clapper:
Thanks much guys! So far it's only lost 1/4" of reflex, Ben. Really hope it keeps holding it after I shoot it some more. Don't know if it's the lighting in my basement or the settings on my daughter's camera that gives it the yellow tint, Eric. The handle is very white curly maple but you sure can't tell from the picture. I'll post some more when she's finished.
Thanks again!
that is very very nice- great job!!!! :clapper: :clapper:
Very nice...
Excellent.
Like Ben, I usually like to see the whole limb working. If you'd have left the outer 10" stiff, it would likely have taken more set in the mid and inner limb areas.
Nice work.
Very nice! Tiller looks amazing, and like the others said, looks like you did the recurves perfect, nice unfurling at full draw. Good stuff!
Thanks guys! I've done my share of drooling over the bows you guys have made, so it means a lot to me coming from you. :)
Very nice looking bow and I like how the tips open up too.
Takefive, I was just joking about it being nice. It's ok I guess.. :)
Thanks for the upgrade Roy! :wavey:
Great job - really like to overall curves. What is the typical measurement of a trilam bow regarding the riser from back to belly?
Thanks cunruhshoot! Hmm...you should be asking ol' Roy instead of me cuz he is the undisputed King of Tri-lams IMHO. The few that I've made are usually 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" thick (about 1/8" thinner just below the arrow pass, where my thumb and forefinger grip). I make kind of an odd offset handle, though. Hope that's an answer, o/w you'll have to take it to the King. :)
1 1/2 is about right..
Nice the curves look good.
That's nice. I really like the recurved tips. They look really good.
Nice bow, makes me wanta try an all wood bow again.
Thanks again guys! You should definitely go for it Jorgy. Funny, I'm thinking more and more about trying a glass one. I blame all the talented glass bowyers on here and the beauties they keep posting for that. :)
D; congrats to you and your wife on your baby girl! My daughter is 21 now and being her dad is still the single best thing that ever happened to me. Gotta admit I don't miss the 4 am feedings and diaper changes, though :scared: Hang in there, man.
The last tri-lam you posted was a beauty, Rob. Sure wouldn't be much of a leap for you to make a recurve if you wanted. Just a bit less deflex and more concentrated reflex in a small area. Also waiting on a certain PA tri-lam builder ^ to perfect the design. Mostly so I can give him a "eh, it's ok I guess"... ;)
