Title: shortening riser: draw weight
Post by: M P Clark on April 14, 2014, 10:21:00 AM
Quick Question:

If you take a 60" ntn bow (3 piece) with a 19" riser and shorten the riser 2" with all else being equal.

Would the new 58" ntn bow draw the same weight as the 60 ntn bow @ 28"?

Limb dimensions as: 20.5" length, 1.5" width, stack minus wedge 0.246.

Limb Pad Angle 21 degrees.  Also, its a 3 piece recurve.

(Anyways, I figure I could experiment and if it doesn't work, just put the limbs on a 19" riser)

Thanks,

The draw weight will not be the same.

If you shorten the riser and keep the same limbs the bow will go up in weight, not as much as if you shorten the limbs, but still some weight.

My guess is for a hunting weight bow figure 2-3# increase in draw weight. Nothing crazy.

IIRC some of the glass guys were saying like 4-6# for removing 2" of limb length.

My bows changed 3# per inch of riser made shorter.
