Does any one know were I can get 2" wide .050 thick clear ul glass other than from Bingham's. I've never had a problem when ordering from them just wondering if there is someplace that might be a little cheaper.
I think Big Jim has it!! I ordered some 1 1/2" from him today. Not sure if it's cheaper but Big Jim has been very helpful and great to work with!
Thanks I tried him but he doesn't carry 2" all my presses are 2".
Kustom King has 2" clear glass.
I'm not sure if it is the same as that produced by Gordon Composites and I've never heard of anybody using it, so I can't speak to the quality of it.
Might check with kennym. Last I heard he still had some stuff. Got some awesome riser blocks just last Friday from him. I cried. Not really, but I WAS misty-eyed. Must have been sawdust :saywhat:
The glass Kustom King carries is Bear Paw. I bought a spool of it 2 years ago and shipped it back because of bad streaks. I talked to Tim in the beginning of '013 and he said BP had made big improvements in their glass. Ordered another spool and it was better, but not near the quality I would put my name on. BP makes some great products, but their glass, in IMO, is not one of them. I find I can only use it on vertical grain actionwood limbs to hide the streeeeaaaaks (not a typo). On a positive note, their tolerances are $$!! right on at .040. Wish I could say the same about Gordon's clear glass. My last order of .040 1 3/4" varied from .034-.0385! I'm having to ship 75% of the order back, and this happened to me on the last order, but it was the 1 1/2"! I'm so frustrated with Gordons! Really, how hard is it to hit a targeted thickness?? Sorry for the rant, but you can tell I don't like to have to deal with return shipping!
South - Thanks for the info on the Bear Paw glass. I've been considering my options for materials now that Kenny M closed up shop. I'll probably go back to Binghams.
Looks like my only option too, not looking forward to that.
Has anybody received glass from binghams that had longitudinal cracks in it? The last order that I got about half of it had the first three or four inches cracked not a big deal if I was making a shorter recurve but would definitely wouldn't work for a long bow. I don't order enough glass to know if this is a ongoing problem I'm just curious if others have experienced this. I was able to used all but one piece of the last order by weeding through the stock to make it work for each bow design.
It happens sometimes, I've even shipped it after looking it over and had the customer tell me some was cracked....
Not usually a huge problem, but it does happen.
Does anyone know where to get Brown glass?
I still have some brown uls to get rid of....
Thanks Kenny,I'll get in touch with you.
