Title: Power Lam
Post by: LookMomNoSights on March 12, 2014, 10:19:00 AM
Would someone please add "POWER LAM" to the glossary of bowyer terms....and of course, provide a clear, concise definition!?   :help:

Well, lets come to a consensus on the definition and i'll add it since I can still get into that post and edit it.

How about something like.....

Power Lam - A double tapered fadeout lamination glued into a bow's handle area and extending a short distance beyond each end of the riser fadeouts in order to reduce or eliminate flexing in those areas.

Thoughts... changes???

i think the first instance of the word "fadeout" is unneccesary and could cause confusion. howsabout "A douple tapered lamination glued into...."

other than that reads spot on to me.

might want to specify that its a core lamination and not a belly or back...
"A douple tapered core lamination glued into...."

Yeah, I was uneasy about using 'fadeout' twice the way I did. I like your idea better. So how about...

Power Lam - A double tapered core lamination glued into a bow's handle area and extending a short distance beyond each end of the riser fadeouts in order to reduce or eliminate flexing in those areas.

this is the sort of thing better explained through a picture than through written word, but it sounds good enough to me

Ok Gents, it's in there.

By the way, let me know if you guys ever think of anything else that should be included.

Bowmaking hasn't yet taught you patience, oldtimer?

For those not sure what a "power lam" looks like. If you look at this riser section of this Dave Johnson longbow you'll see the white maple power lam running just past the fad outs.
