I have been collecting materials to make my wife a bow. She is not a hunter and there is little hope of me converting her that far. But...she does want to join in the family fun of shooting bows with our 3 daughters. I have quite a few ideas on how to make this special and "pretty" which she would like. My idea of pretty is yew or quilted maple...not hers though.
The veneers

I will either put it on the belly with a glossy black glass back or put this on the back with a white belly.
For the riser I'm thinking really light colored birdseye maple.
I ordered these pieces of red lip abalone for tip overlays.

For the grip I am thinking a stingray skin like the one I made for a friend last year.

Any other ideas for blinging out this bow? I was even thinking of doing inlays of our girl's birth stones in the riser.
From what I've seen around here I should just pm Roy but I don't know him at all....
Great ideas, think it will make great bow as is.
I used auto paint glitter on my daughter's bow. Just mixed it into the smooth-on. The only part I didn't care for was the "grain" with clear glass, but it's only noticeable if you're looking for it.

Interesting...any pics of that bow?
Forgot to mention, just love that stingray leather grip!
that will be a beautiful bow. I've never seen a stingray grip...where did you get the leather?
Tandy leather factory had a half off sale a while back.

If you look close you can see the "grain".
very few pieces of the glitter showed up on the side profile.
Definitely gonna check out the Tandy store. That stingray looks pretty awesome !
goobersan,
Cool looking bow. I might try that for my daughter's bow.
Goobersan and typical2, for what its worth on the auto glitter, its like spraying a car, it works best if you spray a light clear base coat, let it tack, spray the glitter(usually mica), let it tack, then spray a clear top coat. This will give nice depth and help the particles lay flat, giving maximum effect. Looking at how the glitter oriented itself in lines, it looks like some of it may have settled in rough sanding grooves. Hope that helps.
I mixed it in the smooth-on that time. She's happy with it so I'm good. Went against my style adding glitter to a bow, but it was still a fun build. Definitely like the input, in case my better half ever wants a bow. :archer:
