So the recent post of the feather backing got my wheels turning. Let's see or hear about all the different backings you guys have seen or done. Not just the norm.

I used it because I always see snake back backing but no belly skin
I did the belly scales a while back also.

Here is one I'm working on now. Just glued it on last night. Its not real snake skin. It cost me just a little over a dollar for enough to back a bow.

I really like cherry bark. Another very cool one that was posted recently was a grass carp skinned bow that John made.

I do laced cable backing. Functional and interesting.
This is cherry bark backing like above with the lichens and mosses left on. I just applied Tru-Oil over it.

Lots of very awesome stuff!!!! Gives me all kinds of ideas. Keep em comin.
This is a trade bow I received last year. It is a sturgeon backed ash. (http://huntingexchange.com/hwdphotos/sturgeon.jpg)
Really neat stuff.......
wow!!!that sturgeon looks awesome
I'm a fan of the carp backing it looks cool, would gar skin work? I know that stuff is thick as could be?
With the fish backings you remove the scales.
I can't imagine removing the scales from a gar.
With the carp or grass carp removing the scales, with care leaves a better pattern.
What's the process for drying Carp skin??
I have only done one carp skin and it was frozen fresh, not dried. I don't think drying would work.
Here\\'s How I did Mine (http://web.archive.org/web/20080217031751/http://residents.bowhunting.net/sticknstring/mj04cb.html)

Wow that looks great! Like it a lot!
What's the fake snake scrub buster ?
The carp over Osage looks great.
You can dry carp skins. It works just fine. You need to really degrease them.

That fake snake skin was some cotton fabric I got off ****. I got enough to back 6 bows for $7.69
Ooops! Didn't know you couldn't say that.
The carp skins I used were given to me by Tim Ott. They were dried. I have another set that Pearlie gave me that are also dried.
