Title about says it..
I'm going to be trying another tri soon.
Thinking about using a zebrawood riser.
Read a few places it's brittle.
Hate to have the fades crack.
I know it's often used in risers...laminated ones... but this application is a little different..
What say you o' bow sages?
Thanks
Nope used it as an accent strip in one bow that was 1/4 inch thick and it held up no problem
did you use it right in the fades?
Thanks
I had a riser piece sitting around for a while before I got to it. It started to split and I had to glue the crack or split back together, before I cut the riser out. Its in a bow now.
Yes it was a substantial,so when I laid out the riser I avoided that area...
My garage goes to 118 degrees during the summer...even with the doors and windows open..
Here's my opinion... since my fades are doing various degrees of work/flexing... and actually helping halt the bend from entering the handle... I only use wood of such species and quality that I would trust in the bow's limbs... In other words, if I wouldn't use it as the belly lam of a tri-lam, I wouldn't use it in the dips/fades either. That way, I have no doubts or concerns about it.
Personally, no, I would not use zebrawood in the handle/dips of a tri-lam. I have stacks and stacks of exotic and domestic hardwoods in my shop and almost invariably use osage for such applications.
Ya it was at the fades and was fine... I'd use it as just an accent and try that first
ok guys
thanks!
If you design the bow right, and keep the area outside the dips the same width as your flares for another 6 inches, and tiller the bow so that 6 inch area has very little bend, then yes it will work.
Zebra wood riser.

that's a lot of if's for a dunce like me...lol
..I do understand your point Roy..gives me something to strive for.
Maybe on #9 or so...
A little zebra woulda looked pretty sweet..but maybe lamed osage and ipe will do the trick....
I will send you a very sweet chunk of Osage for a riser, if you PM me your address..... I owe you for that 6 pack of Old Style anyway:) That's my final answer:)
!!!
You owe me nothin Roy...if anything the scales tip the other way man!
So do you want the Osage riser or not? :)
lol..
Thanks for the offer Roy.
That's damn nice of ya.
I don't think that's a good idea at the moment buddy.
I'd like get a few good bows under my belt before I use a gifted piece of wood. I'm a sentimental fart. The last thing I'd want is to screw up a bow made with a gift from a mentor.
I sincerely appreciate the offer Roy..means a lot.
Thanks
John
LOL ok, but there are better choices than zebra wood.
