Title: birch bark backing?
Post by: scars on January 19, 2014, 03:48:00 PM
Does anyone have some yellow birch bark or know where I can get some?

I just seen takefive's awesome cherry bark bow and was thinking that a combo of cherry and birch bark would make a nice contrasting backing.

Paper birch(canoe birch) is the only birch bark I know of that you can use as a backing and only as a decorative baking, unlike choke cherry bark which is quite strong.

Choke cherry! I forgot about it that's what we use to use in North Dakota.
Yellow birch has a golden color looks and is used the same as paper birch.

I guess I could sneak down to the church in the middle of the night and peel a couple of strips of paper birch off the tree.   :scared:  Nawww

It's only for contrast not for strength.

If any one has some I'm will to beg, borrow or buy. choke cherry, cherry or birch.

I think that would be a very cool looking combo.  I don't have access to the cherry bark where I live, so I buy it from Raptor Archery.  Make sure you post pic's if you make that bow.
