Sure am glad the lams came in at 1.5"
Wanted to end up at 1.25"...and stupidly ordered that.
Kenny is the man!
Nice profile.
Looks nice, and ya sure pumped the deflex / reflex into that..
we'll see how it goes.....
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Looking Good and it looks like you have a solid bow form. Bue--. :)
It seems to be solid enough.
Just took it out of the form and trimmed some of the boogers off...

Cool form!! Roy wants one now I bet!!
Very nice, John...
McKenzie, ah never mind:)
:)
Thanks for the lam Kenny.
I was surprised it lost more curves at the tips than it did in the middle...thought it would go the other way around..oops
My bbo lost more in the center than the tips.
I thought it was because of the wood being thicker there.
Thought the same thing would happen on this tri lam...guess not..
You guys have any tricks for pulling off masking tape?
First time I've used it on a bow.
I just pulled up some where I'm going to glue the riser/handle on.
I pulled toward the tips, but I still got a few very small splinters that wanted to pull up and run. No biggie having it happen here.
..just mostly worried about taking the tape off the back and having splinters pull up...
Thanks
Heat the tape lightly with a heat gun and it will pull right off...
sweet!
Thanks Roy!
:notworthy:
Have fun tillering that bugger out dude! It scares me and I aint skeered a' much!
Go big or go home! ...on the outside
 :scared:   ....me on the inside...lol
looks great...but I'm glad I'm not the one tillering it. :) Specs on the form...? Looks like angle iron and rectangular tubing...cool idea.
Hi Bob,
I don't have the layout specs of the form here with me.
The form itself is steel.
The base is 8"x2" 1/4" wall
The pressure points are angle of 5/16" or 1/4"
The tube you can see thru is some 2x4x3/16".
For the bbo I built I didn't need the extra 2x4 tube as I was able to use spring clamps every where but the center and dips.
This time I needed to make space for c-clamps to fit under the bow and I didn't have any long enough for the center.
Using the tube for spacers worked nice since the clamps could fit right inside them.
Everything is just tack welded for easy removal.
I keep telling myself I should drill and tap the base...but I just keep not doing it...lol
The base was given to me by a good bud, and the other parts are just some scraps from previous projects.
I'll post the specs when I get back to work tomorrow.

Nah....that's easy peasy :knothead:
Zradix - thanks for the information... looking forward to the specs. I teach a couple of high school welding classes and the kids are always looking for projects...
No prob Bob.

you know..it might not be THAT bad.
I'm not positive I can do it..BUT
I couldn't help myself..
I had a barrel that fit in for a riser pretty good and flexed the bow just a bit..just an inch or 2.
Looked like it just might come around in the right places...we'll see..
First I gotta get a handle on the thing...my least favorite part of the build...just don't have good tools for that...or a steady hand.
The plan is to try to layer a few 3/16" thick pieces in with glue and c-clamps.
Worried doing so might try to straighten out the bow in the handle area. Might try to do it on the glue up jig so I can hold down the dips. If so, i'll pad the heck outta the back there.
Just gotta try it and see how it goes....maybe just glue on a few pieces at a time..I dunno
Here ya go Bob.
Sorry it took so long.
I hope this makes sense.
Might wanna wait till after this one is done or broke before ya start...lol. This is an experiment for me and my 1st tri...
The angles on the ends are 5" high
The center angle is 3" high
The mid pads are .5" high
Now, Each of the above pieces are set on the 2x4 tube. The ends have the tube set tall, the mid limb pads and the center have the tube set low.
So the final heights off the base are..
Ends= 9"
Mid limbs= 2.5"
Center 5"
Spacing is...
center to center of mid limb pad=14"
center of pads to ends =15"
cool...thanks!
I'll be watching your progress on the bow!
well my idea for the lamed riser didn't pan out.
Have a riser block coming from Kenny.
Got the new block from Kenny today...boy that was fast!
Thanks Kenny!

...kaboom...nuts
:(
What happened?
Things were looking really nice on the very taught string with the tips moving 9"....maybe a little more
Moved it up to about a 2" brace string.
flexed the tips down about 4" and BOOM!
Didn't see any signs of a hinge at all.
The worst thing is I have no idea WHY.
The hickory backing broke almost straight across in 2 places 9" or so apart...about mid limb.
The walnut core "tore" diagonally in between the breaks.
The osage belly splintered a little but not much.
That doesn't sound right breaking at 4 inches. Ya got pictures, John?
I think I must have just been trying to get the mid limbs to move too far. They had to come around a lot just to get it to brace.
I think I must've created a hinge though it looked about perfect to my eyes. The limbs were flexing slightly at the fades. Tips were barely flexing. The midlimbs were almost straight at brace. Basically at brace the limbs looked darn near straight off the curved riser section with just a hint of the tips pointing toward the back.I was just starting to get thinking..this just might work out..LOL
nah Roy..no pics.
I could post one of the break later if you're into horror pics...lol
Relax, it happens to the best of us:) Just start another one...
