Question? I originally heated a 3" reflex into my stave prior to tillering. Seems I lost some of it during the process. Is it ok to re-heat it on the form to get it back? I don't plan on going past original reflex.
Second question, I was wondering if anyone has ever branded or burned anything int a bow? I want to burn my logo into the fade on the belly side of the bow. Would this hurt it
You will always loose some of the reflex that is added to a wood bow. Depending on how good your tillering skills are you might get away with adding more reflex but you might also add more stress eliminating the reflex you have left. Sometimes its best to leave well enough alone.
You should be OK branding or burning a design in the fade on the bell side.
Would be ok to maybe flip the tips?
Sure. Not a problem.
I'd probably flipo the tips before I tried re-heat treating the whole limbs. I find that the first time heat treating you get the most out of it, and you get less and less each time after that ... assuming you did a proper job of heat treating in the first place.
As Pat said, sometimes if you add too much reflex you just get more set ... so you might add 3" of reflex, and get 2" of set ... yeah you've gained a net 1" of reflex, but if you take it too far you can end up with a bow that feels soggy and overstressed.
