Title: Waxed Rayon for Bow String
Post by: louye on December 14, 2013, 10:39:00 AM
I have two spools of waxed rayon ( 12 ply and 6 ply).  Can rayon be used for bow string?  Which ply?

If not, is Dacron B50 the recommended material?

Do any local stores sell Dacron (e.g. Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart)?

Thank you.

Lou

Lou, you will probably have to but bow string material from a bow shop or on line archery supplier. Other substitutes will work but bow string material is made for bows.
I have used Dacron B-50 on all my bows for many years. Others prefer a less stretchy string material like Fast Flight and other similar materials. You can buy a spool of B-50 from 3Rivers Archery for about $10.
I use 14 strands of B-50 for all bows 45# and over and 12 strands for bows under.

Yep - what Pat said.

3Rivers has free shipping right now if you order before 12/16.  Just ordered some string material myself.
