would like to put some high quality yew into a riser for a 50# kenny m bow.
just an accent piece. it will be in a curley maple riser, the riser will also have an i beam (from walnut action wood and straight maple lamination)
is this a dumb question, yew gets used in self bow handles all the time obviously- just never seen it done in a glass bow, just wondered if there was a reason.
the curley maple piece i have is the nicest i have ever seen, got it from the private stash of a friend of mine who supplies the music wood and veneer industries. and i just dont want to waste it on an experiment
the yew is very high quality, 80+ rpi.
You are definitely fine. Especially if it's just an accent. You can use anything for an accent, supposing it's not so brittle as to break when you bend it to the shape you need (then you just make it thinner, or use 2 thin pieces instead of one thick one).
I've used yew in several risers with no problems as accents and all yew with a rosewood i-beam and glass accents
I'd guess it's not used because it's hard to find and no other reason. I say do it!!!!
Make some yew lams for it too!!
thanks Ben. yup, plan was to put some yew into the riser. and then to splice some lams with the remaining curly maple.
the maple board is exquisite, but is only 1.25" thick. about 3.75" wide and about 22" long- so trying to maximise it. mixed with some good yew!
core lams will be all yew.
