Hey Gang,
I`ve read so much about the fabulous tru-oil here that I`m going to order some.
I came across the sealer&filler when I was looking for it and I wonder if it`s recommended by you who have experience with it?!
I also wonder if tru-oil will wipe away labeling by paint markers on glass limbs?
Thanks in advance for your priceless knowledge :)
I used Tru-oil over acrylic paint with no problem.
Haven't tried it on,any other markers.
Tru-oil won't wipe off lettering in my experience.
The sealer and filler is for open pore woods like walnut and does just what it says if you put on enough coats.I just sealed a walnut flintlock stock with it, it filled the pores.
The sealer is made to be sanded down after you fill the open grain. It is not a very durable finish and will wear off quickly. I put it on my almost finished flintlock fowler so I could test shoot the gun and not fill the stock pores up with black powder residue. It worked fine for this but the sweat of my hands wore it back down to bare wood. It is a good grain sealer not not a good finish.
Thanks guys- this combo seems to be perfect for me; i don`t like superglue for filling as it prevents the oil finish from soaking deeply, poping the colours and I was looking for a finish that doesn`t wipe away my labeling and is harder and easier to polish than usual oils...
MoeM I use true oil and while its brilliant for woods, especially after multiple coats on the risers,it is drives me nuts over glass leaving it streaky.
LMAO so as long as I keep using the cheap Bearpaw glass I won`t even realize any further streaks...
