I have a Martin Mamba I have been trying to work out a twisted limb. Is it possible to get back in shape right? Have been using the hairdryer thing a few times and it has not worked yet but maybe getting better. If I keep going will it work and stay that way. I sold it to my brother in law years ago and I think he has left it strung all this time. I was playing with it a week ago and the string popped off and so I bought him a stringer and got it restrung and found the twisted limb.
I've had good luck using hot water from a faucet. Hold the bow under the running hot water while twisting the limb back past straight until it feels hot to the touch, then turn the water to cold while still holding the limb past straight until it's cool. It took me several sessions doing this to get most of the twist out. The bow I did was a Bear Grizzly and has held straight for several years now since straightening. Your success will depend on how severe the twist is. Good luck.
I have used the hot water treatment on a old garage sale recurve and got it back to shooting sweet. I will try to search for the article I read that walked me through the process. I think the hot water is better (safer) than the hairdryer -
It is so bad , I put the string in place and pull the bow to draw and let in back down and the bottom string is almost off the side of the limb and almost jumping off the limb completely. I would like all the help you guys can give me. I really would like this bow shooting again.
my mamba did this. it was minor and I actually fixed it with cold twisting it by hand.
perhaps try clamping it bent past straight for a few hours until its straight. strangely they seem to stay straight once straight.
don't use fastflite unless its got phenolic tips! found this out the hard way
