Title: Half R/D - Form
Post by: peter61 on August 15, 2013, 09:51:00 AM
Hello everybody!
Is it possible to build a bow with a half R/D - form, connect the two halves with a TD - sleeve, and tiller it like a normal bow?
The reason for this question is, I want to build a bamboo - bow (backing and laminations, no glass)this way.

Greetings,
Peter

I've made 1-piece longbows like that so shouldn't be a problem. Just make two riser sections that are longer than half a normal riser and you'd have enough to build the sleeve like Big Jim does in the video on his site.

Why not have a full length form to glue up full length pieces of bamboo? I guess I'm just not seeing the advantage of having a half-form.

I used to use a half form for experimenting and they work great for that. But once you come up with a design you like then your a lot better off going full length. Here is a link to a one limb at a time form.      web page (http://piratesofarchery.net/bb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5688)

Also I've made a few two piece with this form.
