Title: New Recurve Build - Finished
Post by: Al Dean on August 02, 2013, 05:33:00 PM
Started a new recurve.  My Goal is a bow that shoots super and looks as good as it shoots.  I may and may not get the looks as good part.  I know the limb design shoots great.  I changed up the shape of the riser to something I think looks more refined and weighs less.  Got the basic riser glued up and cut out and 1 limb laminated up.  It's a start.  I would do a build along but all my little tricks are things I have seen on build alongs on this site, so nothing new.  Here are a couple pictures so far.  Riser is walnut and zebra and limbs are zebra with walnut wedge and tips.  More to come as I progress.

Good start there Al! What riser pad angle do you have? Maybe specs in general?

Looks great so far! Look forward to following this one. Could you post a pic or two of your last bow so we can see the changes you have made?

Pad angle is 13 degrees. Riser 19", limbs to make 62" bow (27"+-).

Here is the last bow.  I thought the riser was to bulky and heavy although my grandson loves it.  Also need to do a much better job on the stippling.  Also went from .001 taper to .002 taper on belly lam.

Got the limbs basic shape and mounted and aligned on riser.  Also sanded some on riser.  Looks like it will be a couple weeks before I can get back at it.

End result.  I am pleased with how it turned out and how it shoots.

Really nice work. I liek the shape of the riser!

There's nothing bulky about that at all. Very slender and sleek looking. Really nice job, just don't blame me when I try and copy the style of that riser.

Love that walnut too.
