Title: Reduce Weight
Post by: LongStick64 on July 15, 2013, 07:13:00 AM
I am currently building my second self bow and I need to reduce the weight. I'd like to get 50@25 and I'm getting 60@16 so I know I have some shaving to do. What tools do you use, I've been making do with a rasp and a scraper. I think I may need a more aggressive rasp ?

thanks

I use a rasp and scraper  :)   Get a Nicholson #49 and you won't be disappointed.  If you can't swing the $40-$50 for one, get a new 4 way rasp from a big box and make sure you use it on nothing but wood and keep it from banging around.

A Shinto saw rasp is a fantastic tool and my most used. They are about $30. Japan Woodworker sells them. They are two-sided.

I suggest you get the straight 11". I've used all 3 models and prefer the 11".
