Title: Heard a rumor about cocobolo...
Post by: bradglaza on July 04, 2013, 01:09:00 PM
Hey gang, I heard a rumor that cocobolo might get bumped up from CITES Appendix III to Appendix II. In layman's terms, that means that importing it would become drastically more regulated. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Thanks, and have a great 4th.

I got this from my supplier , but haven't heard if it is just proposed or now listed....

COCOBOLO UPDATE
Proposed to be listed on CITES Appendix II as of June 12th, 2013

What is CITES Appendix II?
Contains species that are not necessarily threatened with extinction, but may become so unless trade is subject to strict regulations.

How will this affect Cocobolo?
Since international trade of Cocobolo would now require a specific export/import permit, prices will increase as a result of a decrease in supply, higher costs and an increase in demand.

How will this affect International sales of Cocobolo?
As of June 12th we may no longer be able to supply Cocobolo internationally. All purchases shipped before June 12th, will NOT be subject CITES regulations

I'll see if I can find out if it's actually listed now or not. But it does seem like a good idea to stock up on cocobolo...
