Title: going for it
Post by: toddster on June 30, 2013, 11:56:00 AM
Alright, I have read for years all the book's and on trad gang.  I have done few self bow's and I have decided I am going to build a laminated bow, straight up Hill style.  I figure a 10" craftsman bandsaw, a belt sander should be all the equipment I need, right?  No heatbox, just form and smooth on with bike innertubes, and tiller stick on wall, I missing anything?

I'm sure if there are any tools you've forgotten, you'll be reminded when the need arises.  I've been making bows for 9 years, and I can tell you that fiberglass bows are the easiest and self-bows are the most difficult.  So if you can do self-bows, this should be a cinch.

I use a table saw a bunch. I would struggle to build one without it.

You'll also need something to sand the riser block and feather the fadeouts to paper thickness. I use a sanding drum mounted in my drill press.
