Title: My Old Website
Post by: John Scifres on June 22, 2013, 10:10:00 AM
Thanks to Sam Harper, I have my old website back.

About 15 years ago, a resurgence of wood bowmaking was sparked by "The Traditional Bowyer's Bible" and some timely articles in "Traditional Bowhunter" magazine.  Dean Torges, Jim Hamm, Tim Baker and a scad of others were leading the charge.  At the same time, the whole world was discovering the power of the internet to enhance and invent a new social structure.  In its own way, this new connective power of the world wide web helped to resurrect primitive bowmaking.  Odd and ironic I know, but natural feeling.

For me personally, it resulted in this my first website:   John\\'s Website (http://web.archive.org/web/20080217094431/http://residents.bowhunting.net/sticknstring/)

It also helped me become a better bowyer as a novice and then a cyber apprentice to so many great bowyers.

"Stalking Tiller Live" (http://web.archive.org/web/20080302181825/http://residents.bowhunting.net/sticknstring/sinew.html)  was the first buildalong as far as I know.  It was done to help me learn at the hands and eyes and computer monitors of those greats.  Please take a look and hopefully you will gain a sense of the fun we had as we played with this powerful new tool.

Great stuff there John. It definitely helped me get started in bow building. I really miss Ferret's old site as well.

Thanks for putting all those tutes together. I know it's not easy but it's a huge help to all us newbies.

Thank you!

Bill

I remember when I was learning how to make strings, your tutorial was the easiest I found to understand.  And I was fascinated by your "stalking tiller" build alongs.  I owe a huge thanks to you, John.  You were an enormous help to me in the beginning, and I still read through your stuff sometimes.

Great web page! Although I don't build self bows I truly appreciate the time it takes to put something like this together. Man similar pages of similar folks taking their time to post what they know, or how they do it, has taken my learning curve down considerably of making everything from lam bows to knives! ONE ATTA BOY! THANKS!
