Title: Hickory stave with crack - it is still usable?

Hi,

I am trying to make my first bow (hickory flatbow). I bought a stave online and as I have been trimming it down to size I noticed this crack. I am not 100% sure if it was there when I bought it or if I caused it.

Is this a fatal flaw for the stave? The crack is on the side of the bow about in the middle of one of the arms.

If it is not fatal is there anything I can do to mitigate the damage? Should I glue it?

Thanks,
Dave

Now it's here must have been my slow network.
In my opinion it's probably fatal.
Unless the bow layout would totally miss this area.
Depending on who you bought it from I'd suggest sending them the picture and hope for a replacement deal.
Many times there is hidden damage inside staves.

UNless you're cutting all that out, it's fatal. Thats not hairline, and I agree that discolored are looks like a watermark. Sounds bad.
