Title: First attempt
Post by: Bruinbow on May 13, 2013, 09:01:00 PM
This is my first attempt at a self bow . I have a nice straight hickory stave that I cut last September and I split it and started carving it down . I have found a few knots near one end that will be in the limb tip . Didn't see them in the bark . I don't want to shorten the bow , it is about 60in. now .

Should I scrap it out or might it work like it is ?  :dunno:

Worst case, make the bow, if it comes in to light give it to a kid! I have made several that in my hurry I wound up with a lighter bow than the target weight so I just made them lighter and passed them on to our future trad hunters. It is good experience making any bow and this will help with all the future bows you make. Just my two cents........
