thinking bout salvaging whats left of the cascara trade bow i was working on. my daughter has a b-day coming up in may. she will be 4 and asks nearly everyday if she can have one for her b-day. there is 39" usable left, thinking i might try for a 38" elb for her. she draws to 16". might shoot for say 10# what do you think? will it work? and of course she wants the back to be "pinked wood". lol. any ideas for staining the sapwood pink?
I think you might make it if you let it bend through the handle.
For pink I use the powdered RIT dye mixed with alcohol.
Simple bendy handle bows ya can get about 2x draw length.
If you make a bendy handle bow, with a perfect arc of circle tiller, string-tip angle is 90degrees at a draw length 1/2 of the string length.
For for a 39" bow, 36" string, you should be able to get 18" before it stacks horribly. But this all obviously has nothing to do with whether the wood will survive.
I think 16" should be fine though. it's equivalent to 32" draw on a 78" ELB.
thanks guys. will give it a try once the trade bow is done.
mac, what mixure you use for the dye?
