Title: actionwood angle cut lams ?
Post by: BrushWolf on April 04, 2013, 08:15:00 PM
I cut these out tonight. They just aren't what I had in mind. Where did I go wrong? The cuts are not angled the way I wanted. But since it is the first time I have tried it maybe there supposed to look like this.  :dunno:   (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1905.jpg)

I don't know what you were expecting but they are beautiful!  I will take them if you don't want them.  That's the way they are supposed to look IMHO.

Hi Mike,

What is that color called? Like it!

What do you think is wrong with them?

Only change I would do is maybe lessen the angle across the limb, maybe a little over 45* looks better  (to me)

The layup of the awood blank makes a difference in how they look, they can change at any time!

Also it is hard to get the colors to match in the same place on a lam. I cut a fuzz thicker than norm and when you get the saw marks out, try to get one side to match and then finish grinding on the other side to thickness.

It seemed like the anglee cuts aren't straight. Also the angle looked to steep.

Hey Mike,

I like the angle at 45* ish too.

Just change the angle on saw a bit to make steeper or shorter...

My jig is a pc of 3/4" ply with a 1x2 screwed on top with about 3/8" more cut at back end.

I start with a 1.75" blank for 1.5" finished lams, this gives plenty.

I set the saw at 1.75 to 2* and cut the side of the blank that the lams in it look least strait.

Square up the blade after you get the look you want, then lay the cut side down and square up edges to finish width.

Now put the anglecut side to fence and cut the last side to true up the block.

When you saw (bandsaw for me) I reverse ends with blank , cutting the same side each time, to keep the block true if your blade isn't perfectly square with table.

I have already told Mike this stuff, so this is for anyone else wanting to do it.

Hope it helped somebody!
