Title: Maple Board Bow
Post by: gobbler716 on March 25, 2013, 02:50:00 PM
I have found a lumber yard that sells maple.  My plans include building a board long bow.  Does anyone here have some dimensions that I could start with.......OR where I could find a good blueprint of dimensions?

Also, I plan to back this with clear Bo-Tuff.

Backing wood with glass s generally not recommended. You could back it with soe straight grained maple though.

Or no backing at all if you can find the right piece of wood.

Straight grained stock is needed. All my board bows have 1.5 in wide and most have not had a glued on handle so that the handle bends. The handle has been 1.5 in wide and the limbs too out to
just past mid limb. YOu can rip the board to 1 3/5 in and get 45-50# if you do your job.  Info on my site. Jawge

Some of the best board bows I've made have been hickory backed maple.   I had many of my first successes with them, both in bowyery and hunting with those bows.   Good luck.
