Title: narrow Hill style stack please help
Post by: Zradix on March 25, 2013, 01:41:00 AM
Hello,

I'd like to try to make a hill style bow.
I'd like it to be about 66" and 45-50#@28" ( maybe 68" if a 66" doesn't draw well to 28")..please let me know...

I'd also like the bow to be 1" to 1 1/8" at the fades.

I've been looking all over online for information on what stack to use.
But surprisingly, all the posts I've found that are close to what I'm looking for never state how the bow turned out...just.."I'm going to try this"

Other posts have been for much wider limbs that I'm really not wanting to do.

It sounds like most do about a 16" riser and around .005 total taper in this narrow limbed beauties. With maybe a short tip wedge.
I was thinking maybe a shorter riser to help it draw a little nicer to 28"

Anyway, If any of you could give me a hand coming up with a stack I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

John

I only make 66'' and 68'' HH style flat laid glass backed bows apart from deflex/reflex and I use 4 .001 tapers and no parallels. For a 68'' @ 45# @ 28'' I use 'boo core and wood stack around .375 plus 2 x .040 glass. Riser is 16'', width at fades 1 1/8'' and 1/2'' at nocks.Hope this helps.

I too like the narrow Hill style bows and have been experimenting with stack size with the help from the fellows here.
My last one turned out pretty nice. 66", 50@ 26. I used a 16" riser,.050 glass belly and back, actionboo lams with a total stack of .500, including the glass, .005 total taper and .040 X 4.5 tip wedges.
I ended up with 1 1/8" at the riser tapered to .750 at 17" and then tapered to 3/8" at the tips.
It was originally a little heavier but after shooting it for a couple days I trapped the back some and ended up with a pretty nice shooting bow.
