hello guys !
I need help... i don't have any string for my pacific yew of Jay ST charles.
It is a TD 62" and 50# @ 28
for make a new string I have to know the string lenght, the diameter steel pins (Both buckles up and daown)
the Draw length for the best performance and the material of fiber (FF or dacron)...
thanks a lot for your help
take care
I think a fast flight string of 60" would be appropriate, or dacron of 59" becasue it will stretch ... someone correct me if I'm wrong.
hi little ben
thanks for your answer, are you shure fast fast string will be OK for this bow ?
do you know the diameter steel pins ?
best regards
You have to ask teh bowyer about fastflight to know if it is ok or not.
I don't know what you mean about the steel pins.
hello,
i send 3 messages by email to the bowyer jay st charles but i have never received any answer...
it 's because i ask you some help !
steel pins for me it is the diameter of the buckles.
thanks a lot for helping
where are buckles used on a string?!!?
hi
sorry for my bad inglish ...
I i was speeking abaout the diameter of the loops which are on the string extrémitées.
to be closer to the extremities of limbs tips
thanks for interest
kinds regards
Are you going to make the string yourself? If in doubt use B-50. I would make it 58 inches long, the end loops will depend on how wide your bow tips are, the top loop will need to be larger so it can slide down the limb when you unstring the bow. You have pictures of the bow?
sorry, mon ami. not criticising your english, just did not understand what you were describing- dont apologise for knowing another language.
most people on this site can hardly speeka de englaise!!
myself included!!!
58" seems short if this is a wood longbow. If it is a recurve 58" seems good.
Roy is older though and we assume also wiser ...
I had a "Pacific Yew" bow that Jay made a few years ago. It was made with laminate of yew and fiberglass in the standard construction method. I would describe it more of a "flat bow" than a Hill style. Wider and thinner limbs rather than the thicker and narrower limbs of the Hill.
I would use Dacron to be safe. I make flemish twist strings and just twist the lower loop to fit snugly on the lower limb and then make the upper loop large enough to slide down the upper. If you are making an endless loop string, I think you will just have to guess as to loop size.
As far as length, 3 to 4 inches shorter than the bow length is the standard but again, it just will take some experimentation.

hello
thanks for your answers !!!
a friend of mine will make me a string for that bow. I just wanted to know if anyone had the same bow to take specific sizes. Yes it is made with laminate of yew and fiberglass in the standard construction method. So naw i think dacron fiber, 58" long with a short loops daown and for the diameter of up hill loops i will measure the limb 10cm under the tip.
take care
Had One of jay bows, would not use fast flight string
hi guys
thanks for your help, i will order to my "friend maker" a new string for my longbow !
have a good shoot
kind regards
If the bow has bone or horn tip overlays you can use fast flight, and I would. There are no other criteria that dictate what string material a bow can handle. Its not in the design or materials used.
hi
yes my bow have horn tip limbs, are you shure i could used a fast flight string ?
Yes I am. I have made 100 plus self bows from 8-10 different woods and they all get fast flight strings made for them. They all have overlays as well. I suggest a 10 strand Brownell D97 string for your bow.
hello,
thanks so mutch for your help, my new string is so nice. the pacific yew shoot quite and fine !
best regards
Hello, My last question what is the best Brace height for my 62" pacific yew ?
thanks a lot
kinds regards
Usually selfbows are braced fairly low 6" or so, but it varies from bow to bow. Start low and increase slowly to get the bow/arrow tuned.
my .02c
OK thank you "Little ben"
