Title: Kennys Giveaway Lams
Post by: heartlandbowyer on February 27, 2013, 09:36:00 PM
Thanks again Kenny
This is what I got so far. I think I might have pushed the limit with this design, not sure if I can call it a longbow, hybrid, or recurve. Got about 3/4" of the string touching the belly at 8" brace. It smokes a 625gr arrow though and it pulls 63 @ 28. under our rules of shoot over here it would be considered a recurve as the string is in contact with a part of the belly. Don't matter what you might want to call it still a great looking bow and i bet it does smoke an arrow!

Guess it`s more kind of "hybrid"- or better some really sweet looking hybrid that gets all my four thumbs going up high!

I call it a hybrid, and definitely my favorite style. Just a bit of contact between the string and belly.

Very nice bow. Just out of curiosity, what kind of taper did you use? specs including stack would be awesome.

That is a wonderfullly looking bow. I especially like the way the transition between fades and limbs look, especially when drawn. I have been playing with the idea of trying to make a one-piece recurve, which will be my first (I only made one longbow and one takedown recurve, plus a pair of recurve limbs), and this is a great inspiration. If you don't mind, I will try to achieve something similar.

I can't pull a 63# bow, being a small guy, but perhaps I can get something around #40-45...if you can give me some pointers on stack and tapers to achieve something similar, that would be great. This bow of yours really impressed me. Many congratulations, and may it serve you well!

That's a sweet bow! I have a form that makes a bow alot like that and I think it is a quieter bow than the one that makes a bow that has straight limbs when strung. Do you have a pic of the veneers?

I guess I didn't take a picture before I started, they are pictured in z giveaway where Kenny originally posted them. Probably will have some finish on them by next weekend. I'll post finished pics then.

Have you tried that form without the Core-tuff down the center ? Ever use a different taper ? What were the results?

I've seen this (your) bow design in another thread and was very impressed... it's a looker for sure. Looks fast sitting still!

Many thanks for your info on stack, heartlandbowyer. Sorry to take so long to reply, but I have been using up all my free time building me a bandsaw...it is a lot more work than anticipated! My main motivation for building it was to be able to make a one-piece form, and this bow you built will be the model for my first form. Many thanks!

Duane,
It's a pretty new design so I haven't messed with different taper yet, I may try more taper on the next on have been using .002 taper up till now. I have used core tuff and it doesn't hurt performance that i can see. I'm getting between 178 and 186 fps on average with 10gpp arrows with this design. I may try messing with stack, taper, and materials to see if I can get a bit more out of it. Oh yeah they shoot pretty darn well too.
