I just thought about using especially heavy wood for risers to add mass- but then the idear of using aluminium blocks which are twice the heavy than even the heaviest woods. A powerlam would be necessary of course but glueing wont be a prob when using epoxi.
I guess it already works for accent stripes?!
What do you think of it?

I think Cocobolo, Bubinga and all the other wood species looks a tiny bit better than Aluminum. ;) ;) Bue--.
For sure they do but some shiny metal in a blackglass sandwich would have some charming too.

First, if you just want to add mass, why not use rods concealed inside of the riser? That way you could still have the look and feel of wood with the weight of metal.
Second, use brass. It's WAY heavier than aluminum, so you can use less of it, making it easier to conceal.
Even if I wasn't going to conceal it, I would use brass, simply because the yellowish-gold color looks better with polished wood IMO.
Glass and phenolic are heavier yet.
I would like to see what you can come up with in your idea though. It MIGHT look pretty cool.

I don't know about gluing aluminum to wood or glass..I would be worried about how much the aluminum could contract or expand in weather changes. Bear Archery put an aluminum lamination in a bow after WWII and had problems..we do have better epoxies now days.

Agree on that one. Or you could use Dymondwood, if you want it even heavier. BTW how heavy do you want your bow to be ?

Don`t have a certain plan with it- I was just thinking about heavy material which can be shaped by hand this came to my mind.
As you know glare for example, aluminium composits are no new thing today.
Brass or steel will be way too heavy and not be worked by hand.
There are some very heavy woods out there. Lignum vitae, pink ivory, various types of ironwood...

I'd make sure I didn't leave it in direct sunlight on a warm summer day. That metal could get HOT and compromise your glue lines.
Hm the different heat expansion might be a problem I`ve to deal with first. Maybe with limbs without wood/boo but carbon core.
Things start to get sophisticated- as mostly^^
You could also make a take-down, where the riser would be more independent and have smaller glue joints. You would have the weight you're after, without the worry of loosing a whole bow if it gets hot or cold too often. Just a thought.
By the way, the Terminator idea does sound pretty sweet.
