Hello all, I have an opportunity to buy a 16" Delta bandsaw that is 16" 1/2HP for $200.
I make a few bows a year (as well as some other wood projects) and want to know if this will be enough saw.
Thanks!
Mike
Mike, I have a woodworking friend that has a 16" saw and loves it. He does mostly turned bowls and vases, and finds the 16-incher very handy. I have used the saw a few times for bows and other projects, and even I can use it effectively :goldtooth: .
I think that is a good deal, and should be an invaluable tool as you use it along.
1hp is better.
I bet ya could pick up and new or used 3/4 or 1 hp motor for a price that would still make it a good deal. Delta makes some good stuff and the size is perfect for bow making and other projects. You could use the 1/2 hp with no problems till ya track down a bigger motor. I would take that deal. Make sure the guides if they are bearings all more free and that there are no parts missing ( fence and table insert )
Does it use the 93.5" blades?
3 wheel bandsaw? Does not sound like winners equipment to me. Never seen one and not sure i would like to.
I had a three wheel Delta once. Large capacity from a smaller saw, but it had issues. Blades have to be thinner and they break easily.
I wouldn't recommend them.
With bandsaws, bigger is better.

thanks for the input fellas!!
