So my wife has decided she wanted to get into archery. So I decided to build her a bow, well the first one ended up to long and to heavy so I am working on a new one.

bow specs:
recurve limbs - osage core with veneer overlay under glass and .002 taper
riser - Bubinga with osage accents and Amboyna inlay
OOOO! That should be preeettty!
Can't wait to see how this turns out, Justin!!
Wow! I love Amboyna burl, just a little pricey.
wow that's pretty stuff
Awesome wood, can't wait to see the finished bow.
Thanks everyone I am gonna be working on it this weekend hopefully after I get my rush order custom knives done for Christmas.
Kenny ;)
Rmorris I actually got a pretty good deal on the burl veneer but I had to order 14 sq ft so I have a bunch left over, so I'm trying figure out a few projects for it the sheets are 12 x 18.
Sweet looking woods.Did you get a hose setup? If not i got one for a bingham's takedown recurve someplace you can borrow if needed. I'm south of Ashley about 10 miles away from ya.
That's going to be a beauty!! Those extra sheets will make a nice table top.
Amboyna Burl, Wow! You are wise to seal the edges. I used to be heavy into woodturning. Unsealed, some of the burls would throw chunks as soon as you turned on the lathe. LOL! That must have been a huge one. Wish you had a picture of it! Gorgeous stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Take care,
Matt
Why are you laminating them to the core. Could you explain more about how/why you do this?
Thanks!
Thanks everybody i am hoping it turns out
Maddog you have a pm
Tenbrook the amboyna veneer is only. 025 thick and is also brittle so i laminated them with a flat press and smooth on to the outside core laminations so when i do my layup i dont have to worry about the amboyna
Because when i glued it i had tape on one side to hold it all together and keep the seam tight then after it was cured i was able to run it through the wide belt to even everything out
That's going to be a pretty one, looking forward to following your progress.

Maybe if it comes out real nice looking it could come out to heavy also like last one. hint hint
Ok so There have been some design changes she likes the way the pronounced reflex/deflex bows look and shoot so I am going to make that instead.
I was shooting for a 58"-60" amo length with 35-40lbs
@ her 24" draw
Q #1- can I make a takedown pronounced r/d @ 58"-60" amo or should I shoot for 64" amo length
The reason I ask is I got some glass ( thanks 4runr ) that is 52" long so I can get 2 26" pieces out of them and conserve glass or I am gonna loose about 20" off of each piece
Limb specs:
.030 glass
.090 parallel
.070 taper with .002 taper
.090 parallel
.030 glass
hoping for around 35-40 lbs @24" so we will see gonna glue up in the morning
I just pulled the first limb out of the form and it looks pretty good and have decided the air hose pressure method is so much better.

I am getting ready to go glue up the other limb now.So if anybody has any input on my length questions in my last post I would appreciate it.
Also what limb profile should I use a straight taper or a curved taper from the fade.
Looking Good!!!
Well worked yesterday and today on the bow ( now named "Golden Sunrise") and got the limbs glued up and the riser profiled, now I have to drill them and then start shaping everything.

So before I screw it up does any one have an opinion on whether I should straight taper the limbs or do a slight arch taper on them?
That is going to be beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Bow looks good i really like the wood combination. Looks like your form and hoses worked out well.
thanks rmorris
Maddog: Yeah the hose worked great I had to rebuild the valve stem it was bent but I had extras.
So I have got the limbs mounted and shaped but I think it is a little heavy like 55-60 lbs how much weight can I lose by narrowing and trap.ping the limbs shooting for 35-40 lbs ish
I dropped a one piece longbow 10# by narrowing and trapping the limbs. It got pretty narrow and I wouldn't want to try dropping it any more. You're looking at a 15# reduction, so that's certainly pushing it. Maybe a better option would be to finish the bow as is and make another lighter set of limbs for it.
If you have enough width you can narrow it and round over the edges to get to your weight but you need to be careful with the limb stability- John's option is a good idea too ; )
Did you go with the straight taper or curved edges? If you went with curved taper, you have some wiggle room there to lose some.
Well I had went with a curved taper so I straightened it and narrowed it down to 1 1/2" @ the fades and 1/2" at the tips and I'm at 50lbs @28" draw so roughly 40lbs @ 24" draw for the wife so im pretty good.
So now im having trouble with the tiller the top limb is straight when stung @ brace and the bottom is a D shape so just need to fine tune it and see how it looks.
