I have been doing some brainstorming. The last couple of bows have turned out pretty good. But I just cant seem to be happy with them. So what I done was try and tweek some things. I started by making a 17" riser and new limb jig. The limb change consist of an upside down wedge and a little more curve to the end. So far so good but the real test will come when I get to shoot it. I did miss the draw weight by about 5# but no big deal. The limbs are the same length as my 62" bows. The 17" riser should make me a 60" bow. I want to use up some stock lumber but was a little reluctant to use what I did. The riser is zebra and macasser ebony with macasser veneers. Here is what I have done so far. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1429-1.jpg)
Here are a couple more. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1432-1.jpg) (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1431-1.jpg) Thanks for looking.
Mike - You sure make some awesome risers. That thing looks great!
Thanks John. I still need to figure out the longbow building though. :)
Great looking bow, I prefer the wedge that way myself.
Dang that is a great looking bow. Even roughed out it looks great. I've yet to build a recurve but seeing that makes me wanna get the supplies together and have at it. Look foward to seeing the rest of it.
looks really good to me, I like it. That riser is gonna look awesome when you finish it
That thing ought be a shooter just by looking at it.
Turning the wedge around really helped the limb shape out. I like how it all went together. I hope to be able to post some more pics soon.

Dude - A longbow will be a piece of cake given your skills. You'll probably be bored ;)
There's a reason why I've built one, and only one, takedown recurve. I'll stick with my easy longbows.
Now,Now John I have ogled my trade bow many times. I'm just not buying the easy thing. :notworthy:
BW,
Very nice work. Look forward to seeing it one of the OH shoots next year.
Troy
Nice one Mike!! I like the wedge that way too!
Great looking bow, profile says she ought to shoot pretty quick.
Here are some pics of the riser. It is just about ready to final sand. I hope to get the most of it done this weekend. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1436-1.jpg) (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1435rr.jpg)
looks awesome
Like the timber choice and great lines on the bow. Well done!
Very nice bow, love it. I bet with those fishhook shaped limbs the arrows go down like rockets.

Thanks guys. If I can get it done in time I going to take it with me on the St Jude hog hunt.
Mike, that going to be a beauty! Tony
Got to shoot the new bow today. Let me just say so far there are no complaints. The only work yet is final sand her down. I would have got it done but I ran out of sand paper. . I hope to have it finished in another week or so. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1499rr.jpg)
Simply beautiful bow.
That is sharp..
Awesome as always, Mike.
Another dead sharp shooter Mike!!
Great looking woods!!!
Good hunting :)
:campfire:
Thanks guys. I hope your right Kip. It would be nice to get a big pig down with her.
Here is a pic at full draw. Let me know what you think. I tapered the limbs a little more. It brought it down in to 54# @ 28. It was a little scary retapering them not knowing the outcome. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1511rr.jpg)
That's a sweet looking bow!
Wow that's got a nice profile. It should really smoke an arrow!
Trux it seems to spit them out really well. With a skinny string and yarn silencers its dead quite. I'm fairly pleased with how it has turned out so far.
You drop that bow in the woods and you will never find it. I really like that wood combo.
Wow, what a gerat looking bow. Like the wedge lined up that way. Good work, and you have some talent my friend.
Well it finally got finished .It turned out 54# @ 28"and is 60". Here are a few pics. All it needs now is a new string. Thanks for looking. Thought I'd try my hand at a little carving. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1542_zpsc2397014-1_zps52d07221.jpg)
Great job Mike!!
That is very nice work and a sharp looking bow.
I'd say you nailed it, that is beautiful!

Thanks guys. Here is one more that I forgot. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1535_zps4dc79489rr_zpsf4d54de1.jpg)
nice bow!!
I am very pleased with the glass. I bought it from Rosewood. He told me it is graded several times for clarity. The dark M.Ebony is clear as a bell under it.
Very sharp bow!
Yea that came out NICE!!
WHOOOO WHEE!! thats a pretty one!!! Very nice! :clapper:
Utterly beautiful!
Holy Crap Mike that thing is nuts. You make some of the best curves I've ever seen. Wonderful work.
That is amazingly beautiful
I can only hope someday to make something as nice, great wood choices, I like that combo, it makes for a great contrast.
The riser is too cool, and your carving on it puts it over the top.
Way to go. :clapper:
Frosty
Very sharp! :notworthy:
Awesome job ! Love the shape of the limbs.

BrushWolf, that is one BEAUTIFUL looking bow! The wedges add a whole other dimension to the riser, and make it even more "purty". Great work! :notworthy: :clapper:
Excellent job!! love the stippling on the grip, I'm going to try that! Tony
Looks perfect to me, nice job.
Wow. That turned out great.
You should be building these things as your full time job.
Thanks everyone.

I don't know about the full time thing. At least now I can get started on a bow for the swap.
If that puppy shoots as good as it looks, then I'd have to say you hit a homerun with it.
Troy
I'll take one just like it at 45-50 #. That thing is beautiful and would cost you 1200 if you ordered one. Wow.
Mike you absolutely nailed that one buddy... I mean nailed it :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Mike, I'm curious. How do you set up to drill holes for the TD bolt and pin? I've made a couple T/D recurves but have always had trouble getting things to line up right. Mind if I see how you do it?
Joe
I shot this bow this past weekend and it's awesome! It's quieter than my longbow and has a awesome cast to it. I tried to buy this bow off of mike but he wouldn't budge! It was great to be able to shoot it finally after looking at all the pics!!!
Thanks Logan. It was great to hear your thoughts on it and watch someone shoot it as well as you did.
Dang dude....you've stepped up your game even more. Very impressive.
