I am doing a project on an old bear bow. I want to remove the medallion for part of the project. What is the best way to remove it with the least potential damage to it and the bow?
Put a bolt in a pair of pliers or vice grip by the threads, heat the head in a torch and then press the hot bolt head on the coin. The glue that holds it is hot melt and you will be able to loosen it and shake it out. Do not use a screw driver and pry as this will crush the sides of the hole it sits in.
I do as Shaun suggests, but if its stubborn, while the coin is hot, take a glue stick and let it melt a bit on the coin. Let it cool a bit till its stuck good. Then just pull on the glue stick and the coin should come with it. I've had some where I had to do the process several times.
Thanks!
