Post by: Blackjack on November 26, 2012, 09:01:00 PM
I hope its ok to ask ,I have access to hickory, black walnut and a small osage tree.are the staves from these worth anything or not...the walnut stump is 69 inches, hickory 65inches +/-,osage is short{maybe 50 inches,I was thinking maybe billets)but tons of of branches,(maybe ishi sticks) but coming down too,per landlord.....all these trees are coming down, just wanted to see if I could send GOOD bow wood on before it gets burnt

By all means take it all home! When you cut them, seal the ends right away with glue or varnish, or shellac.

Billets are good. I would get it all.
Don't overlook the bigger branches for staves or billets.
Good luck

Walnut has a place in making bows. Maybe not whole self bows, but it's nice riser material.

Yep. Walnut is good for accents, overlays, and such.
