I just scored a freshly shed rattlesnake skin. How do I perseve it for future use in bow building?
I just got it today & am leaving tomorow for an elk hunting adventure. I'd like to do something with it before I go so the Mrs doesn't toss it while I'm gone.
Thanks
Tack it to a board, flesh side out and set it aside. You can scrape the flesh off it this way as well.
Good luck on your elk adventure.

If it is a shed skin, I'm not sure how you would use it on a bow.
Shed skin probably won't work. It will be very fragile, like tissuer paper.
Shed skin will work, I have seen it, but...
I had no such luck trying it. The skin needs stretched out, and sheds are so thin, it will either tear, or you will find air bubbles too hard to get out.
As for how to keep it, no problems here. I cut the shed so its flat, then roll it up and keep in a ziploc.
For reference, the shed I tried was python, which has much larger scales, and may very well be easier to get air bubbles under. You may have better luck with that skin.
