Title: Belly Glass Question
Post by: schneiderjohn on September 12, 2012, 07:15:00 PM
Have built over 20 all wood lam.(usually Boo Backed Osage) Enjoy the occasional failures.  So that said I'm going to try a very simple(no form or hot box) Glass backed and belly hickory backed osage belly Hill style longbow.  Figured I'd cut everything including glass to approx. weight I want, with room on sides to adjust tiller. Question is do I use a 030 glass lam on back and 050 on belly or reverse or back and belly the same?  I plan on using Bow Grip and light clamps.  I'll either build straight or weight slightly if I decide  I want some deflex or the opposite way for a bit of follow,

you got it right, glass is stronger in tension than compression so the heavier glass would go on the belly.
