Title: Tru oil thinner..?
Post by: Paul/KS on September 06, 2012, 12:49:00 PM
My bottle of tru oil is getting a bit "syrupy" so I'm wondering if adding a bit of thinner will help it out. If so, what works best?

When mine gets that way I toss it and buy a new bottle.

From the Birchwood Casey web site:

Q: How can I increase the shelf life of Tru-Oil?
A: To increase the shelf life of Tru-Oil poke a small hole in the foil instead of pulling it all the way off and store the bottle upside down after opening.

Q: Can Tru-Oil be thinned out?
A: Tru-Oil can be thinned out using mineral spirits. NOTE: Adding mineral spirits will increase drying time.

Gum Turpentine can be used for clean up.

Thanks guys. I do store it upside down and that helps. I have some mineral spirits so will try that. I appreciate the info.
