Still fairly new at bow building and until today I felt that maybe I was doing something wrong??? I have build 26 bows and haven't had one blow (in my presents.... my neighbor Bob's bow broke but I had shot a least 100 arrows through it before I gave it to him)..... Well I finally feel like I belong :) I was getting pretty close to a finished tiller when.... Boooooooooom!!!!! scared the Kaaaa-rap out of me :) The whole time I was working on it it felt exceptionally stiff and the physical weight was very light. I even backed it before my final tillering. I did some heat straighting and maybe that did it. I didn't think a piece of wood could be so loud!!! Glad I've got a half dozen bows in progress,,, back to work....

Impressive bang! It's fun when they blow. Ok maybe "fun" is stretching it :) Sorry for your loss [moment of silence].
not a good look buddy :scared: at least you are ok
Congratulations Kip. You are a bowyer now.
I've seen it and heard it many times myself. Sure makes you feel all funny inside, then mad on the outside! :bigsmyl:
Pretty exciting when one blows. Then you start looking to see what it might have damaged.
At least no one got hurt. (feelings aside) :knothead:
Dave.
No lumps no blood just a quick change of shorts and I'm ready to rock but it was one heck of a boom..... I'm glad I backed this one :)
I kin just see a little mouse over in the corner, laying on his back, laughing his a$$ off:) It's fun when they go boom, eh Kip? :) I been there a few times myself.
I have lifted splinters on the back of a few bows but no explosions yet. Im jealous!!!! "just kidding".
Glad your okay. What type of wood?
Roy I see the mouse but I think it's a heart attack not laughter :scared:
It was black cherry. It felt different than anything I've ever worked. Maybe very stiff and risistant to bending. It is also very light by weight. I've got another one but I think I've had enough Cherry for now :)
Got me worried... I just started a cherry stave last week.... Sorry for your loss.
Rick.
Way to go, coster! Yep, they do go boom ever' once in awhile. My first attempt at the last trade bow did that. I was tillering a bow and suddenly I was tillering slightly more than half a bow. The top limb fleww to the other side of the garage!
Climb back on, bud, N-Git-Er-Dun!!!
