This is my first attempt with trying to do this, I lightly sanded the glass and applied Titebond. I have some air bubbles, can I fix the bubbles? Is the best way to remove the excess skin from the sides, a sander? Should I use super glue as a top coat after removing the scales? I plan on refinishing the entire bow. Can I use poly over the skins. Thanks Tony
Use a small cut in the bubbles and squirt in some Superglue...fixed. I use sandpaper, not a sander, to clean up the edges on glass. A fine file will work as well but then you have to sand out the tool marks anyway. Don't use Superglue over the skins. It will make them cloudy under finish. Use tape to remove the scalesalong with a pencil eraser if needed. Be sure to get them all. Follow the directions on you poly finish and it will look great. Good luck.
Dave
If the TB glue is still wet you can make a small slit, lengthwise in the bubble and press the air out. I do this with places where too much glue has accumilated too. Do not use super glue on the skins after they are attached to the bow. It will eventually crack and it is not necessary. Any good bow finish should work well over the skins but give the TB glue plenty of time(days) to completely cure out before you seal the skins.
Thanks Dave and Pat, I used a straight pen to let out the air from bubble, now looks like there's a low spot where the bubble was, I'm going to watch it for another day if it's still low when everything has dried I'll try filling it with super glue. Thanks again! Tony
I like tru-oil over my skins.
Here's a couple of pics. Tony
