Title: Bow Backing
Post by: kybowhunter2 on August 05, 2012, 10:08:00 PM
Im gettin ready to back my first bow. Is snake skin considered a backing that is used for strength or just a decoration of the bow. Can I back it with fiberglass dry wall tape and then put my skins on it, or is the snake skins enough.

Thanks, Travis.

Travis, what wood is the bow made of?
I would use the fg drywall tape if it's red oak. The skins are cosmetic. I'd would save them for a later bow.
Actually, I would suggest that you use paper. I've used paper and fg tape. Liked the paper better. Just my two cents worth.
Good luck,
Stan

Yes you can. Put the tape on if you feel the need to, and after the bow has been shot in, add a coat of finish then add your snakeskin with any one of the titebond glues or hideglue or elmers glue. After the glue dries ad a few more coats of finish, lightly buffing after each coat dries.
then go shoot and build another one. Good luck on you're first bow.
